Yamaha drawing power with key off?

My 02 HPDI 250 is drawing power with the key off, were should I start. When I disconnected the neg post of batt it sparked and put a volt meter between bat post and neg engine cable it showed 10volts. I don't hear anything running fuel, oil pumps ect.

Do you have a "Master Switch" for main boat power?

I have master power for boat power ranger key pad, GPS, livewells ect. The main and kicker motors go straight to battery. I disconnect main motor at night. At the end of the day when I start my main motor it will barely start and kill my gps. I have new 29 group bat. I don't have a good shop to take it to and don't want to take it to a place where they just replace parts at my expense.

    thanks

Wow thats a big voltage drop for a new battery.Have you had your battery load tested yet. Ranger FLW Tourn. boats have "Master Switch's" installed for the engine side also. Checked your engine side power cables already I assume.

My boat was doing the same thing with my 200 HPDI in my Ranger. I bought a Perko swith that can handle the draw. All you do is run the positive cable from the motor to the switch and a cable from the switch to the battery. When I am done running for the day I turn the switch off.. Works great.

If you have GPS on your boat it will draw power even with the power off unless you have perko or other type master shut off switch.

Get a dual battery switch. One Battery for main engine and the other for acc. Turn off when not in use and you will be fine.

Re: Yamaha drawing power with key off? (sapnfish)

Thanks for the help. I have been disconnecting batts when not fishing. The thing is that when I'm out fishing my 4-6 hours my batt is drawn down that at the volts are under 12v, that when I start the motor the Lowrance's all shut off, then by the end of the day the motor will not start. My trolling batt is in same compartment so I just jump it. I think previous owner had same problem since boat came with jumper cables.

When I hookup batt to motor sometimes I can here a click like a relay but not all the time.
