    Yamaha customer service

Well my boat has been sitting in the shop for over a month now waiting for the Yamaha rep to come look at it. The motor seized and the mechanic says that Yamaha has to look at it before they can rebuild or install new powerhead. Has anyone else had problems with Yamaha taking forever to handle a warranty claim?

We have NEVER had that problem. Might want to contact Yamaha yourself.

My powerhead replacement took about 6 weeks, then had to go back twice more for adjustments etc. Total time out of service, about two months.

Guys I'm sorry to hear about your problems, but that is NOT the way Yamaha does business, I think there is more to it than Yamaha. And I'm not saying it's you either. We have NEVER had a customer without their boat that long, even when a new powerhead was needed. Normally 2-3 days for a powerhead and another day to remove the old one and replace with the new one. Have seen them come in on Monday blown and leave on Friday with a new powerhead.

Thanks for all the replies Jason the rep made it out today. He said that the failure was a lean condition caused by loose intake bolts and that they would not cover it. They said that the shop that put it on is liable but the shop says their labor was only 30 days so no body wants to take the blame and pay for repairs so looks like my 7 grand was a waste of money. I do not want my motor rebuilt if I wanted that I would have had my old one rebuilt. I want a new powerhead.

I would definatley try Yamaha's 800 number. I had a prop sling a blade and was told by Jason that warranty would cover it, which it did. I inquired with a local dealer, parts guy instructed me to call Yamaha which I did. The rep I spoke to was not happy that the dealer told me to call them myself, he really seemed to care about my problems, he also called and set the dealer straight from what I understand.

And the shop wont stand behind there work? Did the rep tell you they forgot to put lock tight on the bolts? You might find out if they did or not and take a pic and bring it up to the owner of the dealership?

Was this work you spoke of warranty work as well and they did it wrong????

3 intake bolts were loose and in bottom of pan with no lock tight and 2 more were loose enough to spin by hand. Shop owner says his labor warranty was only 30 days and motor made it past that. He has offered free labor to rebuild motor but I have to pay for parts. Problem is I don't want a rebuild I could have rebuilt my old one but chose a new powerhead because Yamaha builds great motors

Give the guys at Hydro Tech a call and see what kind of a deal they can do for you on a power head swap. Good luck

Guess I could just have it rebuild but it will have one oversized piston don't really want that and don't want to spend another 5k on a new powerhead for this motor

    Re: Yamaha customer service (jaybo)

Man, this sucks. How do they warantee labor? I mean, if they installed the bolts incorrectly, or didn't do the job right, doesn't that void their end of the deal and they then become liable? That's like breaking in a new motor is your end of the deal and if you don't do that properly it can make you liable.
