    2004 150 V MAX

I have a friend who is a wimp and has been procrastinating his registering so that he can post this question.
He has a 2004 150 Yamaha V MAX. He said it is a cold natured S.O.B. when starting it first thing in the morning. After the first start, he said it runs great and starts easily the rest of the day. He does run seafoam. Is there anything that he can do or have done to help with this?
    Thanks

There have been lots of discussion lately. You can do a quick search. But basically, not much. That's how it is. Maybe adjust the electric choke to make sure it closing all the way. For me, the best way is to let motor down first, pump bulb, pull manual choke then undo all the straps on boat. By then it starts a little quicker than normal.

There is a bit of a nack to it, but they are not pigs to start cold. They are quite easy.

Firstly you must have a properly adjusted electric choke. You can test with the manual choke switch on the bottom front of the cover. Secondly you must properly prime the primer bulb up firm. It must be hard.

    Trim the engine level
Turn the choke on (hold key in or use manual)
Crank the motor until it kicks the first kick then turn the choke off (this part should take about 3 seconds)
You may need to tap the choke on and off a few times to keep it going. Also, a little gas may help.

It sounds hard but is very easy. Those motors are very similar to the 80's versions of them. Mine always started within seconds even after sitting unused for 6 months.

Yes having the engine level is important. Also priming the bulb until HARD.

Make sure the electirc choke is activating the choke lever under the cowling. Take the cover off the motor, and push in the electric choke switch, and see if the choke is engaging.
You can also manually choke it, using the choke pullout located directly under the cover, in the front of the motor.
They are a bit cold blodded, but as bullet proof as ANY outboard ever made!

I had the same problem. Pull the choke on the front of the motor and make sure the primer ball is pumped up. Mine starts right off now. Used to crank the battery about dead trying to start it
