    Shifting Question

I have a 03 225HO that I just got back from the shop last weekend after having the motor mount replaced. Took the boat out and when I shift into Forward it will not engage. It will work in Reverse with no problem. When I put it in Forward and try to spin the prop by hand it makes a noise like it is trying to catch or engage. You can hear a clincking noise. Is there an easy fix for this, or what can it be.

Check your cables on the engine mounting plate they may not have tightend them up causing your shift linkage not to engage. Also you can pull the shift cable off and manually engage the linkage lever to see if it goes into gear. If it does adjust the shift cable.

How do I go about disconnecting it? I would love to get it figured out before I take it to the dealer since they are closed this weekend.

First... I would like to know why they changed the motor mount?

Remove the motor cover, look at the right side of the motor where the cables connect, the shift cable is the lower one, where the end of the cable attaches you will see a black arm that runs towards the front of the motor and attaches to another arm.

That arm has a silver looking plate with a switch mounted in it, that silver plate should stand straight up, I think you will find it is leaning towards the back, adjust the shift cable only to make it stand up straight.

Rusty- The motor mount was replaced because the trim roller on one side had broken off. That is why it was replaced. I will look at it in the next few days to see if there is anything I can do. Thanks for the input.

There is also the possibility that if the gearcase was removed during the repair, the installer did not measure the shift rod height adjustment.

Put the control box in neutral and look at the shift lever in the motor where the cable end attaches. The lever should be parallel to the crankshaft centerline. If not, then its adjustment time.
