Any tips on cleaning OX66 oxygen sensor?

Heed tips on how, tools needed and what cleaning solvent, for how long etc. if anyone has any. Gonna do a few PM type things this week and want to get this done as well. Its on a 250hp motor. I notice occasionally it will lage a few extra seconds before I get on plane and everyone says its the O2 sensor needing cleaning or replaced. Thanks

    Check out this post.

If you decide to check the voltage remember if the voltage doesn't bounce around alot the sensor is probably bad.

I put a universal car sensor in mine a few months back and it runs better now then ever. It only cost me 48 bucks also.

Here is a link to the post. Hope this helps..

You can either soak it for a few minutes in Sea Foam or Ring Free, then use a wire brush to clean any left over gunk, or you can use a torch to heat it slightly, and then wire brush it. I torched mine last year and it worked perfectly, just don't overheat it.

Re: Any tips on cleaning OX66 oxygen sensor? (JUST-IN-TIME)

I'd prefer the o2 sensor cleaning PDF article was taken down, it is quite out of date and is NOT the recommended way.

Firstly, check the voltages of the o2 sensor while the engine is running at various RPMs. Even if you are doing PM you should know if it was working properly before you started. You can do it without a test harness, just push your digital multimeter prongs into the back of the plug.

There are two voltages that matter. The heater will be getting 12-14 volts. If you find this you aren't looking at the right connector. Go to the other.

The sensor voltage should be centered on 300mv (0.3 volts). It should move around lots of times per second but if you average your readings it should be close to 300mv. As you accelerate it will become rich or lean (I can't remember which but probably rich so around 0.1 volts) but as your throttle position settles (when you stop moving the throttle) and the acceleration reduces it should quickly get back to a 300mv centre.

Secondly remove the sensor, and soak the tip (not the threads) in ring free or sea foam overnight. A film canister is a great container to do this in.

The latest stuff from Yamaha says NOT to use the blow torch method.

If you want more detail, search for previous threads with posts from me in it. I've detailed it before.
