Hey Rusty, got a question.

I bent the propshaft on a dang stump today, and it also took out the bearing carrier rear seals. Can you give me prices on a new shaft, and those 2 seals? (mod# E150GLEVC ser# G 04306801) Also, am I gonna need any special tools to replace it? I work at a merc/yammie dealer, so we dont have any OMC tools.
I appreciate the help!

Jason,
Not Rusty but here you go:
Prop shaft 5004765 approx $270.00
front bearing 0382497 approx $20.00
Rear bearing 0436752 approx $9.00
Seal 0341281 approx $12.00
Oring x2 0305123 approx $1.80 ea.

Make sure if you haven't whack the gear your shop should be able to tell.
Have fun.
BTW it is a GLEUC not GLEVC. . CM

Re: Model is probably E150GLEUC (not a V) Here's your parts, but...

A quick guess would say you're in for about $400 to $450 in parts and you're dealer's labor added to that.

Here's a quick list with your bare minimum parts to fix it...

5004765 Propshaft $306.00
5006373 Seal Kit $77.00
0314730 Pinion Nut $9.00

Two more things that may turn up although no one knows until the gearcase is apart on the table...
0320961 exhaust tuner seal $10.00
5001593 Impeller (while it's off, why not?) $34.00

Add a gearlube fill and labor and you're ready to go.

Re: Model is probably E150GLEUC (ChampioNman)

He works at Yammie dealer, but his personal preferences are right with the motor!

Actually he said: <<I work at a merc/yammie dealer, so we dont have any OMC tools.>>

So I suggest he trade a favors to a local OMC dealer with the tools for the job or let them install the propshaft and reseal it for him.

Tom

Just claim it on your insurance & you will have a shinny new lower unit for about $250 or less.

Geez for another $20 he can get a complete H20 kit . I'm sure that the locals at his shop have connections to make it right.

By the way, there is no shimming fixture for the prop shaft.

You only shim the pinion depth on the drive shaft in a standard rotation John/Rude gear case.

Jason, get your dealer to tear it down, take shaft to machine shop & get straighten out if possible & get dealer to put back together. If shaft not bent to bad,you can save a lot of money.I have done it several times over the years & no problems.

Re: Hey Rusty, got a question. (santee bass)

Thanks for all the help yall. My buddy (the other tech at the shop) says he has a buddy that used to work on rudes that might have the brg. carrier tool and the pinion nut tool, so we're gonna try to get er done. I didn't think you had to shim the propshaft on this motor, in school we had to use a shimming tool for the driveshaft, but that was it, thanks for clearin that up Rusty. Thanks for the parts prices CM, and I thought the Yammerhammers were the expensive ones haha! Do you really think I need the bearings too? The lube was a little milky but no metal, and I caught it right away.
This really sucks I got a big tourney on the 10th...oh well, I guess chit happens.

Why cheap out for $30 or so bucks? Do it once and do it right. CM

Have the gears checked out good also. Learned the hard way. Gears failed after about 50 hours and took out every thing in the case. Just my .02
