    Over heat alarm?

Ive had it go off twice now in the last week and a half. both times were idleing for a few mins not sure exactly how long it was just found out things get loud when it overheats. Is it normal to get this alarm with i dont know maybe 5 mins of idleing?

No. I've never had the alarm go off on any of my Yamaha's from idling and I've idles for a hour or more on some occasions.

Hi all...mine recently started doing the same at idle or trolling speed...its still peeing..wondered if maybe water pickup was partly clogged or maybe time for new water pump?

Have you checked your idle speed. It could be idling a little to low. Does it do it after a run?

not really after a run just idleing and when the alarm starts ive found that if i give it some gas it will shut off because of a little more water pressure to cool it....but when i put it in gear ive also found that it is almost choking itsself out sometimes and sometimes have to give it gas...i have sorta been thinking the idle speed might need adjusting but dont know where to start...

Been there. Check your popit valve for small debris. Mine had large grains of sand in it which affected engine cooling at idle level rpms.

    water pump
    poppet
    t-stat
    bad thermo switch

all these would cause an over heat

Same problem here. Usually when idling after unloading bout from trailer.Have to turn it of and wait a few minutes before starting it up and moving again.
Guess I'll start with the poppet valve.

Your alarm should never sound unless somethings wrong. Even though its peeing water, your water pump could still be bad. I have had mine do the same thing,on my merc, still peed water . Turned out to be a bad pump.
