Close Encounter of the Third Kind

I had a CEOTTK this morning on the way to work. I've lived in Wichita for 32 years and the only 4-legged wildlife I've ever seen in town have been rabbits, squirrels, and a few Bambis.

Anyway, I was driving to work down K-15 (4-lane divided road) about 5:45 this morning at 50 MPH when the car just ahead and to my left slams on his brakes. I immediately see why - there's a coyote running across the road. I hit my brakes but no cigar - I hit him just left of center on the front bumper. It was dark and the last I saw of him he was going under the truck, so no idea if he survived or not, but I doubt it. I checked the truck and there is some paint missing from the lower bumper cover but no blood that I could see.

I'm sure glad I was driving my Denali instead of my wife's Toyota like I was when the truck was in the shop last week!

Thought it was a dog at first glance! If he survived he's gonna be REAL SORE for a while!!!

I must admit, hitting opossum are much more fun than coyotes.

At first I thought you were saying you rammed into and over the car in front of you that hit their brakes. Glad you are okay and there was only minimal damage, to your truck , I am guessing the coyote is a couple appendages lighter now.

Upon further review, it looks like he hit just inboard of the driver's side tow hook. I've got blood and fur on the lower grille opening by that tow hook and a bunch of paint knocked off the lower part of the bumper cover under there. Guess I need to find me a paint & body guy now!
