    Motor hitting when trimming down

Hey guys, I've been on this site a lot and think it's great. I finally joined today. I could use some help. I have a '04 Yamaha 200 vmax on a Skeeter TZX 200. When I trim the motor down all the way the left side of the two cast extensions that go in between the mounting frame (not sure of the correct terms) is hitting the side. It creaks bad and does jar the pistons a little. The motor needs to move to the right about 1/16 or 1/8 of an inch. The right side has about 1/4 inch of clearance.
    1. What might have caused this shift?
    2. How do you shift it?
I tried a few things and can't figure it out. Thanks in advance. Hope to answer questions for others in the future.

Re: Motor hitting when trimming down (chickenbone)

Welcome to the BBC Bone. Have you hit anything with the lower unit? If not, I think this is a common issue as my former 175 and now 250 both do it. I grease the sides really good with waterproof grease and it seems to work fine. Be sure to put some grease on top of your trim rods as well. Recommend giving it a try.

Re: Motor hitting when trimming down (Skeeter Madness)

My ProV did the same thing. Actually started wearing into the sides of the clamp bracket. I made some shims out of a plastic oil container. Put a couple on each side and haven't had a problem since, about 7 years ago. Worst thing was pulling the steering cables and seperating the bracket to put them in. Didn't have to move anything just balance the motor while installing the shims.

Re: Motor hitting when trimming down (jhl1965)

Thanks guys. I was thinking of "shaving" a little off both spots so it doesn't hit and greasing it good. We'll see how it works out. I will stop by my Yamaha dealer and see if he can instruct me on shifting the motor. I'll let you know. Thanks.
