Im not RJ but benelli is very good. If you want to go much cheaper Mossberg 858 is a camo gun that shoots 3 1/2, is a pump gun designed for turkey hunting

Re: opinions on a Turkey Gun (dragracenova)

i have shot a few of the Benelli guns and i cant justify spending $1300 for a gun that i will use 2 times a year.....they are an awsome gun but just way out of my price range......as far as the mossbergs go im jsut not a big mossberg fan at all.....buddy has an older 835 and brother has 2 Mossberg 500s and honestly my opinion of them i wouldnt give ya .10 for all 3 of them

Are you solely looking into an autoloader? If your considering a pump, look at a Benellie Nova. Not being biased, but they are as durable as any shotgun out there. I have one, but rarely use it. It's my backup.

If my wife would let me get another shotgun, I'd get an extrema II....But I can't since I got a new boat.

Remington's have been good traditionally, but some say their quality isn't near what it used to be. I don't know first hand. Good luck with watever you get.

Re: opinions on a Turkey Gun (Luke)

I had a Remington 870 since 1978 that is yet to wear out. Hunted ducks, turkey pheasants, quail and dove with it and it has served well. Originally bought it with a 30" full choke and upgraded to a 28" Hastings with tubes. I bought the gun when I was down at Homestead (FL) and Montgomery Wards had the Mossberg prices on the Remingtons and the Remington prices on their Mossbergs (that girl didnt last long in the sporting goods department).
With the 23" barrel, you'll have enough room to get full velocity out of the shot (usually burns it up in the first 20" or so), and with the 3 1/2 inch chamber, it leaves you room for playing with different loads. I wouldn't hesitate a minute buying another Remington. I bought my dad a Rem 700 CDL in .300 WSM last year for Christmas.
I've added a Browning A-500 and an extra barrel for the Encore (20 ga with turkey choke) along with the many other guns I own .

I gotta stick up a little for the Mossburg!

Granted they are not a generation to generation gun. But they are IMO the best bang for the buck and for T-hunting they rule: if your are lucky you will shoot it two times a year.

They offer 10 gauge diameter barrels, two times wall thickness on the steel, back bored, MADE IN THE USA (hard to find today) and they work. M-burg offes the 935 auto and if you are only shooting 3" or larger it is a solid configuration.

Just my .02 but go drop 400 to 500 and spend the rest on bass fishing. As much as you will shoot that gun it will last generations.

In addition they offer thumb hole stocks, short barrels, all the goodies.

Just my two pennies, but don't count out one of the last MADE IN THE USA guns.

    Luke,

i think you buy what you can afford. Everyone knows that Remmington makes quality guns, and if the gun shoots 3 1/2" shells, then your all set. i am biased towards benelli because i love the guns and i got it for a christmas present one year...get what you can afford and what makes you proud

    Re: (Bassman25)

If you only plan on using it 1 or 2 times a year you can get by with a pump gun. Do yourself and your wallet a favor. Mossberg 835, or a Benelli Nova is the way to go.

    Re: (Luke)

I am not a fan of the turkey guns. The couple I have shot didn't pattern worth a squat and I feel like a wuss with only a 23" barrell...

Get a regular gun and spend the money on a good choke tube.

Re: opinions on a Turkey Gun (Luke)

I certainly would not rule out a mossberg. I have one of the original ones with a 24 inch bbl and I shoot everything with it. More crap has died at the end of that barrel than I can possibly count.

But, probably your best bet is to get an 870 xpress and a good choke tube. And actually the remchokes are decent. I've shot turkeys with everything from 3.5 inch 10 ga to 2 3/4 inch 12's and they have all died equally well.

RJ your a azzzzzwhole. I go buy the motto one shot one kill. Hell I only take one shell with me into the turkey woods. Most of the time I don't even use it.

I hear ya man!!!!! You would think that goose hunting alone you'd only need 3 shells for field hunting. I am sure it can be easily done sometimes, but more often than not, it doesn' happen.
