2000 OX66 200hp DIES!!!

I have a friend that has a 200 OX66 200hp. It dies suddenly at cruise speed. It goes along great and then it suddenly, without warning dies! What could it be????

Has anyone experienced this?

High speed fuel pump maybe? Does it cut out at a certain rpm everytime? The OX's have 3 fuel pumps.

On my '03 225 OX66, I had a similar problem.

When I would run hard for a while, the engine would shut down completely.

Then, I noticed water coming out of my controls hole on the front of the engine.

When i got home, I ran the motor on the muffs and noticed a 1/4" bolt behind the power pack had come loose. It was (I'm guessing) spraying the power pack with water and creating a short, which in turn, caused the engine to shut down.

It was a small bolt....I'm not sure how long it is...

Let's see, at 2:50 AM, I think I was sleeping!

I think the problem could be a number of things. I would first check the fuel diaphrams, and the entire fuel system. Then check for any lose bolts along the water jacket. If those two check out ok, then I'd get a manual and start checking the electrical system.

Sounds like the high pressure fuel pump. Mine was bad when I bought my boat 3 years ago. Luckly, the guy I bought it from paid to fix it. Not cheap. Cost him $1223.64.

Start with the three low pressure fuel pumps - $50 in parts and an hour of labor.

Look for cuts or holes in rubber diaphrams on each.

Mine 250HP OX66 wouldn't run above 1500rpm by the time I sorted all out. Two of the three were torn right along the edge of the housing in the corners.
