    Boat wraps?

What do you guys think of them? Is it cool to be a floating billboard and would you have one on your rig?

If someone wanted to pay me for it (like that would ever happen) and it was something cool (hunting related, Miller Lite, Seagrams, Playboy, etc.), I would be all for it. Other than that, probably not.

    Re: Boat wraps? (TimS)

From what I saw at the Elite T in March they are kid of a pain.
They get torn, the back part that is in the water will peel off.
They look good from a distance but up close they make a boat look cheap.
The only advantage I could think of is, when you take the wrap off it will still look like a new boat on the outside.

But I'm with Tim-- somebody wants to pay me to put one on and it's probably a good deal.

    Re: Boat wraps? (Bassman25)

I agree. I would never willingly put one on at my own expense. I was thinking more along the lines of stumbling across a good boat deal where the boat happens to have a wrap on it. If it was a decent looking wrap, I wouldn't be against it. Like Blaha says, it would offer some protection for your rig and at the worst, I would think you could always just take it off.

Well, I’m willing to bet that any of us that fish more than just a club circuit would jump at the chance to have a sponsor willing to defray some of the costs associated with tournament fishing. If that meant having to run the sponsor’s wrap, then I’m willing to bet that it wouldn’t be out of the question. I know there was some speculation when the women’s tour started up that there would be feminine product wrapped boats. While I’ve yet to see that on the women’s side I think that we can relate that there are more and more non-endemic bass fishing sponsors showing up. A year or two ago BASS was running a Cialis wrapped boat, not sure that would be my first choice of wraps… Oh, I’m off on a tangent… the simple answer is yes, I would have my boat wrapped if I were sponsored and used the products of a particular company. Do I like them? Sure some are unique and appealing and others are a bit gaudy though. All that I have seen do show damage worse than a typical boat though when the wrap is torn or peeling off. Is it cool to be a floating billboard? I don’t view it as being “cool” to be sponsored; I see it as an advantage financially. I see Dan Rodlund (BUGMAN21I) at sport shows, Bass Pro demos, and at tournaments wearing his Tournament shirt that’s loaded with sponsorship and I don’t see Dan as being “cool” rather I see a clean cut kid that’s focused and probably better off financially than most because of the sponsors that he’s aligned himself with.

good points and good post Bob i agree completly if someone sponsor wise were to wrap my boat and may for it it wouldnt bother me any at all really and as far as a view from the sponsors side of it its great advertisement......how many of you have seen a boat going down the road or at a gas station and take a look to see what it is what its colors are and so on......now take that same boat and put a wrap on it how many would be out of the truck or parked right next to it to take a closer look so for the sponsor that paid for it its great advertisement that gets noticed easily and thats what they want is exposure

Just out of further curiosity, what are those wraps made of? Some of kind of shrinkable plastic? Never really examined one close. Just have seen them from afar.

    Re: Boat wraps? (TimS)

Nope. No plans whatsoever for a wrap. Just curious about them and what other guys knew or had heard about 'em. I think some of them are cool looking and the only reason to have one would be if someone was sponsoring you.

To go out and buy one just to bling out your boat or draw attention to yourself makes no sense to me. I have seen guys, and there was one in our club, that paste all kinds of stickers all over their truck, wear fancy fishing shirts, and bling everything out to look like a pro, and they couldn't find their ass with a handful of fishooks, let alone catch fish. Nothing against someone that does it, but it wouldn't be my cup of tea.

There are some pro boats that look nice with a wrap on 'em, but that's a little different than your everyday angler, IMO.
