It's highly recommended. Some guys will also tell you that Sea-Foam is just as good too. I don't doubt that it is, but your Yamaha manual recommends the Ring-Free by name, and I just decided to go with it.

Sorry, one more question...do you use it at every gas up?

    Re: Ring Free (jhb)

Yes I do. It's real easy to figure. One ounce of Ring-Free per 10-gallons of gas. My tanks are almost exactly 2-gallons per inch of fuel in each of them. I don't worry about the mixture being perfect, just real close to the recommended amount. I often add a little more Ring-Free than necessary.

I use ring free a little heavy every gallon of fuel since new it should keep carbon from building up. Enrico

Sea Foam go by the label. works great for me. I have not any problems with starting or fouling plugs.

Re: Ring Free vs. Sea Foam

I switched over to Sea Foam earlier this year, after having used Ring Free from the first day I purchased my boat back in 2002. I'm much more impressed with the Sea Foam than I am with the Ring Free. I've been using 3/4th oz. Sea Foam per gallon of gas.

The important thing is to use one of those products every time you purchase gas!

SeaFoam is cheaper and better IMO.

Re: Ring Free vs. Sea Foam (Charger)

Just curious as I switched over from Black Recently..... how do you calculate sea foam as cheaper when you have to use up to one ounce a gallon and the ring free is one ounce every 10 gallons ? I just cannot get it to compute

Sea Foam is a lot more expensive than Ring Free at the dose I'm using (3/4th oz. Sea Foam per gallon of gas). But my engine idles SO much smoother than it has in years, and I don't have that black carbon buildup inside the prop cavity area like I always had when I used Ring Free, that I don't mind the extra expense at all.

Now that makes sense..... I just could not figure out the cost savings associated with sea foam due to the lower initial cost, but more dosage per gallon...... Thanks !

Re: Ring Free vs. Sea Foam (JeffinFortWorth)

Use them both @ one (1) oz per ten (10) gallons of fuel. The sea foam will clean just as good and cost WAY less. I use the one to one (1:1) ratio just after christmas when I take the boat out for the last time.
