    HPDI question

I told my dealer to put new plugs in my (2005) 225 HPDI last December when I got it winterized. I was at Table Rock the last two weeks and my motor didn't want to start. I took it to a shop and the guy pulled the plugs...two were all gummed up. He said it was most likely loading up on one side and that would cause the tough starting.

He cleaned them and the starting issues were fine the rest of the trip but it wanted to die when I put it in reverse and I smelled a lot of gas. Any ideas??? The plugs shouldn't have been like that after only 3 months of use. I'm going to put new ones in this weekend but wanted to see if everyone thought that might be the only issue. Thanks.

If the plugs are bad you will smell gas because it cant burn it.
    1. Make sure you dont cover up the exhaust port with wtr when idling.
    2. Have you got #6 plugs in it instead of #7
    3. Put Syn oil in it.
I had the same problems and done the above and havent had any trouble for 2 years

Also, the guy at the shop at Table Rock asked when was the last time I added Ring Free. The dealer told me not to run Ring Free with the HPDI. Is this right?

Always run ring free with the HPDI. Also, I change my plugs every six months just to keep up. This past 6 months I had about 30 hours on them and they needed it bad.

I had no clue about ring free when I bought my boat. I took off one morning, went about a mile a she shut down. Would not turn over 2500 RPM. I had carbon built but and the computer system would not let the motor run. A new set of plugs and some ring free and I was off again.
I don't know where we are, but we are making darn good time.

I always used it with my 200 VMAX. They told me not to with the 225 HPDI.
