I look forward to this time every year. With the hot summer we've had fall couldn't come soon enough. The kids were out of school today so I took my son Jacob (the one with the red hair) and a friend of his that he plays ball and fishes with. It was Dennis's first trip to Dale. He boated two and had 2 more pull hard to the boat and come off. Jacob worked hard all day having his first hook up come all the way out of the water and throw the jig. It was a good 4-4.5lb fish. He struggled the rest of the day and finally caught a nice one which ended up being the best one of the trip. I boated 8 and missed 4 or 5 short strikes and broke one off on the hook set. Not a bad day for our first trip. The forecast for cloudy skies changed to blue bird and northeast winds but still nice weather. I worked hard to try and position the boat for them so I'm sure the day could have been a little more productive but nothing is more fun than seeing those fellas set the hook and get bug-eyed while fighting those smallies!
surface temp 63-65 fish were scattered from the main lake to the first or second secondary point. All were caught on 3/4oz football jig. I tried a smaller 7/16oz round head and didn't get a sniff.
