    Classic stuff

Boys I've been lurking but haven't fished all that much or had alot to add lately, but I've gotta tell this one because sometimes being a jacka$$ gets you what you deserve.

Fished Patoka this weekend and going out of Newton Stewart was a 111 boat BFL. We started off fishing a point with some grass as they staged way back by the boat ramp. Then the launch boat came out about 100-150 yards from us and began sending them off one by one. We were nowhere near in the way. About the 10th boat out decides to go past the launch boat and do a 180 to come back in toward the bay. This guy jumps no more than 15 yards in front of me and drops his trolling motor and starts casting right up on the point I'm fishing. So I'm a little aggitated, but I figure what the hey, its not worth getting pissed over because I hadn't caught anything anyway. Then about 5 or 10 boats later, another guy does a 180 and comes back towards us also. This jerk decides it is 100% acceptable to drive right between me and the point I'm fishing in front of 100 of his competitors. I'm not exaggerating when I say I had to reel up my spinnerbait to keep it from getting caught up in his outboard. As I'm standing there stunned in disbelief at how rude this guy was, guess who plows his boat into the mud (water is down) and promptly hangs his outboard and sticks his boat dead solid . I couldn't help it, I just started laughing and if I'd had my camera I'd have taken a picture and put this a-hole all over the internet. I just sat there and watched him getting his due to my amusement for a minute or two (did not offer help) and then fired up my outboard, washed the whole area out and idled across the bay to another point.

There this jerk was trying to big-time me and all he managed to do was get himself hung in the mud and make a fool out of himself in front of 100 of his competitiors. Karma can be a mother and he should have known better...he would have thrown an absolute fit if I had done this to him. It never ceases to amaze me how a little money on the line and a few patches on a shirt makes people feel like they have a license to be an a-hole, but at least this one got what he deserved.

For the record, the bite was a little slow for me. Basically slop fished most of the day and covered alot of water. Caught a few shallow and a few deep but nothing really consistent at all. Also saw some Texas tea so I think some areas of the lake are probably beginning to try to turn over.

I've had that same thing happen to me 3 times in the last 2 years. One of them were just in a runabout but they beached it anyway.

Thats classic, glad I was not his non boater. It must have been dumb@$$ day in that tournament. We were standing in line to get our bags and the guy in front of me (A rather good local who did well) asked another competitor if he had any fish. The other angler said no, and the guy in front of me said, its a damn good thing you didn't I should protest your ass. Apparently the guy who blanked pulled a Gerald Swindle and cut between the local and another boat fishing a point. There was a bit of shouting and then it cooled down. Another boater made a comment about almost catching a jet ski with his bow because the pleasure craft decided to be cute and do some wake jumping. What a day!!

I never understood why guys ran up the river, but now I guess it is starting to make sense. To get away from it all.

I like fishing up in the river personally. I like dirty water and all the lakes around here get dirty up river. Other than Rough River there is a lot less boat traffic too. To many boneheads on the mainlake.

Sometimes you have to give dirty to the dirty. Now don't get me wrong I am a civil person out on the water but there have been instances where you have to stoop to their level to get their attention.

I had a similar thing happen to me a few years ago. I was fishing up river early one morning when a tournament boat ran buy me and about washed me on the bank. I ran into the same guy a few hours latter. He flagged me over and I was thinking he was going to apologize...his battery was dead and he was wanting a jump. I asked him if he remembered washing me out earlier in the morning he has a strange look on his face then proceeded to start cussing me for not giving him a jump. My last reply to him was you had better find someone else or your going to be late for the weigh in. As soon as I got back to the ramp I reported him to the tournament director just in case he showed up and wanted to start some crap at the ramp. That was the only time I have ever saw that person guess he is still out there waiting for a jump start

Same thing happened to me while I was prefishing for a BFL on Neely Henry in Gadsden, AL.

That big ol ranger stuck in the mud good. We sat and watched as he stood on the throttle, going no where and throwing mud. Noticed the motor wasnt pumping water and also listened to it lose power....the temp buzzer had been going off for a good 5 minutes and he kept pouring it on.....they finally got lose and the boat wouldnt get on plane. Motor was so hot steam was rolling pretty good

Does anybody have any news about Gil Hensley? I have heard through the grapevine that he had wrapped up the co-angler title for the Hoosier BFL and went to get the truck for his angler. He never came down and when they found him he was slumped over the steering wheel and had suffered a fatal heart attack. My dad and know of him from him fishing the Hookers tournament every year.

    Re: Classic stuff (Hoosier Vet)

AJ and I where fishing the FOM tourney this spring at Barren when the lake was WAY!! down. We where in the middle of the creek fishing stumps in about 1-2' of water with the channel behind us sitting in about 4' of water. These 2 guys in a ranger motor right through the shallow stump side 5ft from my boat. They clearly saw us casting in this area and muddied up the whole area.

If this had not been a FOM tourney I would have definitely shown my RED side!!

I witnessed the beginning of this incident before I took off. Glad to see he got his. You just have to wonder what the deal is with some people.
