    200xri questions

Hello, I just bought my first bass boat. A 1993 Champion with a 200xri. I can't find the serial # on the swivel bracket so i pulled the cover off and i found a number stamped in what looks like a freeze plug? #C273588. Can anyone help me identify? I checked out a book at the library and it told me to use NGKbu8h plugs but on one of the plug wires it has what looks like a factory note saying to use only NGKbuz8h plugs. What 2 stroke oil should i use? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Re: 200xri questions (paul holt)

    Engine Serial Number: 0C273588
    Model Number: 1200413JD
    MERCURY 2.4L EFI 200XRI ELPTO

    Manufactured: 12/14/1989

Parts Catalog definitely lists BUZ8H as the recommended spark plug.

BU8H would be acceptable, but would not have the same RFI protection.

Parts/Information can be looked up online, via the serial number (0C273588) at: http://www.mercurypartsexpress...arine

Recommend Mercury or Quicksilver Premium PLUS oil.

the manual i have is a 1990-2000 seloc. would that motor be considered a 1990 since it was built in mid-december 1989?

Correct. And, I'd also recommend relying on an OEM Repair Manual.

sorry to pick your brain again. what would be the best # for compression 110-120? is 87 octane enough for that motor? what water pressure should it have at idle and at wfo? what is your opinion of that motor?

    Re: 200xri questions (paul holt)

Compression: Somewhere in the 110-130 psi range, no more than 15 psi variance (preferably less than 10% variance between highest and lowest cylinder).

    Water pressure:

2-4 psi at Idle Speed (minimum)
12 psi MINIMUM @ WOT (prefer 15+ for safe measure).

87 Octane acceptable with above compression specification (89 octane acceptable- anything higher is not recommended).

    Re: 200xri questions (EuropeanAM)

i forgot to mention that the motor at idle about every 30 seconds or so, burps or sounds like it is releasing pressure. It doesn't idle rough or lose pressure in the bulb. and last but not least, what rpm is redlining this motor? i took it up to 5800 which was wide open and ran it for about a mile and it seemed and sounded like it was loving it. Just don't want to hurt it and would like to keep in the safe range whatever that might be.

Recommended WOT RPM's should be printed on the engine's serial number decal.

Although your description of this "burps or sounds like it is releasing pressure" is a bit unclear... you shouldn't be hearing anything of this sort from this engine. Sounds like a lean-sneeze, or a leaking reed (perhaps).

Verified Sync-n-Link settings, and TPS adjustment?
