    need some advice

So to make a long nighmare story short my buddie was on his way home from a long road trip and both of his hubs (berrings) on one side of the trailer went bad. it is a e z loader tandem axle bunk trailer. before he left on the trip we did the bacics greased the hubs and checked the tire pressure. so after a long day of getting parts and replacing everything at a rest stop in the middle of nowhere we got it back on the road. so we got back a home and started checking everything else out and talked to a guy at a trailer shop and he said that the problem was prob that the hubs got over greased. he said the way those hubs were designed is the space between the berrings was to cool the berrings and if there is to much grease in there the berrings cant cool. i guess that kinda makes sense but how are you sapose to know how much grease to put in then there are grease zirks on the end of the axle and i have always pumped grease in on all my trailers until some of the old stuff came out and called it good and never had a problem. I am concerned cuz i have the same excact trailer as my buddie. any thoughts would be great thanks guys

Do you both have Trailer Buddys with the blue center piston or bearing lube with the removable rubber plug? The cavity of the hub holds 6.6 oz of Lubricant which cools the bearings as you travel. The hub is not designed to keep air in one portion and lubricant in another. Trailer Buddys are pressurized to keep a full hub full. The bearing lube is not waterproof and needs to be re-greased often. The bearing lube booklet instructs you to lube every time you launch.

    Re: need some advice (DABS)

I have the rubber plugs on the end of the hubs. I do grease them fairly often as i remember the manual saying to do so. should i get berring buddies is that a better way to go?? i just want whats best. Like anyone else i dont wanna spend part of my vacations on the side of the road. whenever i shoot grease into my hubs i do it untill all the water gets pushed out and i see some old grease come out. thanks for ur time

No matter what kind of hubs you have, if grease can get out, water can get in. When you overfill them you are going to damage the seals.

air cooled wheel bearings, ....that's unique. Don't ever let him work on your stuff.

Do you have spindle mounted zerk fitting or bearing buddy type?

Missed this the first time. That's the way you're supposed to do it with that type, you're fine.
