Okay, that may not be the correct term for the part of the trailer the winch is attached to but here's my question. I'm considering purchasing a 16'*" boat to replace my 15'3" boat. There is room to bring that pillar forward about 8"-10". Can I do so without causing significant problems with trailering and boat position.

No way to tell without measuring. You don't want the bunks to end under the boat, and you don't want to get too much tongue weight.
If you have integrity, nothing else matters. If you don't have integrity,
nothing else matters.

A lot of boats hang off the back of the bunks a little. Id be more concerned about how the new boat sits on the bunks.
Well, due to a recent "incident", I'll be be removing the original guide bunks and replacing them with aftermarkets. That should allow for additional width.
