Replacing tail light on trailer - how to connect wires

My old trailer lights were connected to the wiring harness of the trailer with a plug (yellow wire and brown wire). I cannot find a replacement light with same plug, so I'm going to have to connect the bare leads. What's the best way to connect the wires? How should I seal the connection since it will be submerged? Electrical tape won't hold, will it?

Use butt connectors with electrical grease as much as you can get on.

I think most auto stores carry the grease. I believe the sparkplug boot grease will work great and cheap.

Butt connectors and cover with Liquid electrical tape in a can. Sold at auto parts store.

Most autoparts stores have weatherproof butt connectors that have heat shrink built onto the connectors. Also get some Di-electric grease, coat the wires, and use the weatherproof connectors and a heat gun or a lighter.
