    MFI trailer brake question........

I'm going back with my bearing re-packing and have done hundreds before on cars....but this metal cover that covers the brakes and caliper is weird....It bolts to the caliper and 2 metal clips are suppose to hold it in place???? Should I just bend the clips over the metal cover?? Is the caliper suppose to "float" like that...rotate on one bolt? Give me some thoughts, guys....

What you have there is the UFP "Trailer Buddy" disc brake, we refer to it has the DB-35 system. You are correct has this is a "floating" caliper. I see in the picture, the retaining wire is missing, this wire holds the spring clips in place and it must be there or the clips will slide back and the pads will drop down and lay against the rotor causing over heating of the hub, usually the pads will wear at an angle. I recommend installing new spring clips and retaining wires. The manual can be found here....http://ufpnet.com/Portals/0/PDFs/TBDiscMaint.PDF...
Note: If you have this system and you need rotors, change the system over to the newer DB-35 system has the DB-42 is being phased out in the next couple of years. You can get parts at Waymire's at 800-434-4824, ask for Jerry...

I was hoping you would see this post, Lyn... I really dont even think the brakes work..... So if I get the new spring clips and retaining wires, will that help to hold that metal caliper cover better??? Does it look like the metal cover is on the wrong side??? thanks!

The metal cover, looks like a turtle shell to me...lol...it bolts to the caliper with 2 bolts, must be secure...The single bolt that mounts the caliper the the bracket needs to have red locktite applied, then torque to 17 ft lbs...give me a call and I will walk you through some brake diagnosis
