    250 Pro XS alarm question

I have a 07 250 Pro XS. This morning i turned the ignition switch to the on position and an alarm started going off. It read fault 15 absolute manifold pressure sensor. What is this, how serious of a issue is it,and is it costly?

    James:

    Welcome to BBC!

The MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor) is a sensor that is mounted into the top of the intake plenum (directly behind the throttle plate) on your engine.

It signals the PCM with information on the PRESSURE inside the intake (which can be anything from ATMOSPHERIC pressure at key-up or WOT, to vaccum when idling).

It is a CRITICAL sensor to the proper function of your engine.

Not overly expensive... and relatively simple to replace. Of course- you might want to take a look and make certain that it's actually still in place, and properly connected.

Our Parts Department would be happy to assist you with a replacement, if needed.

Re: 250 Pro XS alarm question (EuropeanAM)

Thank you for your reply. It only went off the one time while sitting in my drive way. It hasnt went off since but I have yet to run it.Do I need to go ahead and replace it or wait until it does it again? By the way, a cold front had just passed through so maybe the change in the air pressure would have set the alarm off?

Very unlikely that any "barometric pressure" change (at least one that you stayed with your boat through) is the culprit. Much more likely is that there is a connection problem, or a failing sensor.

The MAP sensor is one of the PRIMARY sensors required to make the engine run properly (your engine utilizes a SPEED-DENSITY system... DENSITY comes from the MAP Sensor).

I would replace the sensor... it's simply NOT an optional item.
