+1........if you plan on jumping from stand location to location on public lands or lands your not aloud to tap the trees, they are good to have handy
If you are serious about hunting, you will want a lock on type treestand and a climber (or several). The lock on is more versitile, as you can use it on pretty much any tree. The climbing stand can only be used on trees that don't have a lot of limbs, unless you are going to do a lot of trimming.
I use both, depending upon the tree I want to sit in. If it allows the use of a climber, I will normally use that.
If you hunt public land, where the stand has to come down every day, I think the climber is the quickest and easiest way to do it. With some practice, you can actually set up and take these down pretty quickly and quietly. With not being able to use srew in steps on public lands in WI, it can be a hassle setting up a lock on type treestand.

Look at the Millennium Ladder stand as well...these stands are very well built, and comfortable.
I'm glad I bought mine. I like the option of moving around.![]()

I have a climber. It is an API with the full wrap around mid section/seat. I believe that these type stands with the wrap around design really help the people who are somewhat afraid of hieghts. It gives an added sence of security. I would still advise to always use a safety system. I used to use a 10ft ladder stand. I still really miss it sometimes, such as nature calls or when you just get so cold you want to get down and move around some. You can hop down, do your business or take a short walk and then come back and get into your stand without to much comotion.

Thanks for the info and opinions guys... I pucked up a API bow hunter model. It doesn't have the bar in the front to get in the way of anything. Can't wait to try it out!!!!
I hunt my own land...so I don't have a use for them. Even before I bought my farm...I still didn't have a use for them. I always used loc-on type and climbing sticks when on the land I hunted before I got mine. If you hunt public land I could see where you just about couldn't do without one though. Steve
I hunt private land - have done so for 20+ years......and still use a climber. I LOVE mine - it's SO freakin comfortable it's unreal. I LOVE the fact I can sneak in deep and set up in just about any tree I want to. I also carry a pack saw in my pack though - and that helps with any small branches that get in the way.
Now - with that said.......we've also got 4 ladder stands and about 6 lock ons that we can hunt out of set all over the 450+ acres that we hunt (just my buddy, me, his father and BIL hunt here) but I always stick to my climber.....just love sitting in that thing - SO damn comfortable!!

The're good except when you have to "go" really quickly. I have two Summit's and I think that every serious hunter (bowhunter) should have one. ..........................Roger

I two like the ladder stand at my age it's the only stand I will trim the branchs that need to be trimed in order to use it on that tree plus I am hunting on my sons land 46 acres so the stands stay there pretty much all year .
I use the climber I have as a scouting tool. If I see an area I think looks promising, I'll hunt it using the climber. If it turns out good, I'll put a ladder there the following year.
The only drawbacks I have with the climber are:
1) no way for a quick remedy to the gurgle guts
2) must find a big enough tree to support it (not always easy)
3) can be a pain to get to the location if the brush is thick
