Hole in cowling...

So learned a new lesson yesterday...when your tilting yout motor up make sure that all your rear deck doors are closed. The battery compt. lid was up and I tilting up heard a crunching noise and now have a half dollar sized indentation/hole in the front of my merc 150 black max. I have no idea how to fix this glass...I pushed the remnants out from behind the case and may just cover it with some black tape maybe electrical....any suggestions how to make this look nice would be appreciated....

there may have been some cursing shortly afterwards LOL...

I put a hole in the top of my 225 EFI cowling. I had to trim out some inside pieces so I could have access to the inside of the hole. Put tape over the hole on the outside of the cowl, then used Bondo with fiberglass in it to fill from the inside. Once that set I removed the taped on the outside. It was very smooth but had some pinholes in it, so I filled it with Bondo spot filling putty, then sanded smooth. Painted over it with some black spray paint. Not perfect and you can tell a repair was made, but you hardly see mine since it is on top at the rear of the cowl. If it's in a more visible place I would probably try to get some paint to match from Mercury.
