    250 opti XS RPM loss

This one got me scratching my head. Only has 14 hrs on the engine.I have lost 700 rpm only turning 5300. I had the engine guardian go off when I was idling the engine and using the trim and the hydaulic J/P at the same time. Any ideas?

Check battery connections. Engine cables first, then biggest to smallest. If all is good have battery load tested. What battery and specifications are you running?

battery connections are good. As far as the battery I will have to pull it out and load test the battery. I know it should have a 800 cca battery.

See the following post on Batteries. 800CCA is not going to cut it for a fishing application.

My question is if this battery is used for starting and nothing else and the engine guardian is not sounding a fault when the engine is running. would the engine still run at a reduced power just because it has seen low voltage once.

don will get you straight, my guess would be that you've tripped the guardian mode with something else, and you're gonna want to hook it up to a diagnostic port to find out...

Re: 250 opti XS RPM loss (sterling11)

    Tony:

When battery voltage drops below 11 volts (especially during the STARTING cycle), any number of strange things can happen.

And this becomes a vicious cycle. In many cases, the ECM simply resets (trying to protect itself, it shuts down and restarts). Main power relay contacts can fall open, chatter open and closed, etc. etc. etc.

In extreme cases, the starter may spin- but the engine doesn't fire.

You must remember- you're trying to power ALL of the following to make your engine run correctly:

    -SIX ignition coils and drivers
    -SIX fuel Injectors
    -SIX Direct Injectors
    -TWO electric Fuel Pumps
    -One MPR (Main Power Relay)
    -One ECM
-A fully array of engine sensors, dash instruments
-And of course... a power hungry starter
(and this is with NO ACCESSORIES, pumps, graphs, etc).

I cannot tell you the number of times folks pay for HOURS of labor and diagnosis.... only to find out weeks or months later it was simply that they needed an APPROPRIATE battery.

Save yourself the headache.... go buy a Sears Diehard 31M, put it in, and rest assurred you have adequate reserve capacity for your engine, graphs and pumps (all in one place). It will cost you FAR LESS in the end.

You're welcome- be sure to report back after you've run it with the REAL battery.
