WHITE Cornbread???????

We recently retired from Kansas to Alabama - I wasn't born here but I got here as soon as I could.

Anyway, our neighbor lady serves cornbread with every meal and it's always WHITE cornbread. I've eaten yellow cornbread all my life, but didn't know there was such a thing as white cornbread until we got down here. I'm not a big fan of anything made with white corn - especially tortilla chips. They have zilch flavor compared to the same item made with yellow corn IMHO.

Anyway - is this a southern thing, a regional thing, personal preference or what? Thanks gang!

I can't answer the question as I am our resident "Damn Yankee" and vagabond!
But I have a question. Was the white corn bread bland compared to the yellow corn bread?

Very much so - very little corn taste at all. Same problem as white corn tortilla chips.

Ive always eaten white cornbread. But ive lived in bama for most of my life too. My mom always makes it with regular cornmeal. Its not a mix you can buy and just add water too, it basically cornmeal, buttermilk and oil mixed together and cooked in a cast iron skillet. Man its the best thing ever when its cooked right. This is the only way i have ever eaten it.

When I have cornbread at my house it is yellow cornmeal made with eggs, milk, creamed corn,oil and jalopenas, bacon, cheese or any other additions you like. Mixed and baked in the oven. But my grand mother use to make fried cornnbread on top of the stove with white corn meal in a cast iron skillet and man talk about good!!!

I'm a Texican and we have always eaten cornbread made with yellow cornmeal. However, JMHO, I don't think there is much of a difference in taste of all of the types of cornmeal. Travel over to New Mexico and you get blue cornmeal. They are all great to me!!!
