have a nice flat painted plywood wall in my shop. wanting to hang my rods/reels somehow from this flat surface. I think for my shop having them on the wall would be easier to keep track of then some store bought rack standing in a corner. How can I safely without doing damage to them fix something to hold them???? Dont care if they lay down or stand up
I saw something a while back about using a pool stick rack. Never have seen it done but sounds like it should work.
I use 6 of the Berkley Vertical Rod Racks in my garage. Pretty inexpensive and I've had them for about 4 years and they look new.

Buy yourself a bunch of Stick Jackets, http://WWW.STICKJACKET.COM and you can put up some nails and "hang em high" in the shop to get them out of the way, plus they keep them nice and tangle free in your rod locker no matter how you throw them in.
The most inexpensive way would be to buy some of the hooks like you put in a cabinet to hang coffee cups on, may have to nail a 1 X 4 at the top for spacing. Screw the hooks in at the height you desire and space them out, hang the rods with rod tip. Hope this helps, works for me.

I did that, but it was rough on the eye inserts!

stick jackets are cool. Are those like expandable webbing (snakeskin). Some industries put machined parts in them to prevent edge damage. I been using stick socks for years after getting tired of tangled crankbait and carolina rig rods in my locker. With a protective rod cover, I also am not worried about flexcoat chipping and tip top guide damage during rough boat rides.
Well to tell you the truth I thought they were just way to cool not to have and besides it was another way to run up my tab at the Dug Out. My TR21X has the rod management system on the port side and will accomodate 12 rods. But I also put some not often used rods on the bottom on the carpet. I saw these things and figured it would help the guides slide out of the tip holder end (and it does) and help preserve the finish, most of my rods are G.Loomis, not cheap. They also have a brass grommet on the end that will allow youi to hang them vertically in the garage from a floor joist above, off the floor and out of harms way. Another item of interest is lure protectors. I just gave away at our last club meeting, all of my old nylon and velcro lure covers about 30. I shucked them for the Clear, see thru vinyl and velcro, so now the rod is protected and the lure does'nt get fouled and at a glance I can see what lure I have on.

I disagree, sir....the nails you use to nail that 1X4 are just as effective as the hooks, and you can cut out 2 steps....
Use some old packing foam (not styrofoam - I think it's polyethlyene, typically black or white), cut it in the length desired and approx 2 inches square. Secure it to the wall with a couple of screws (you may need a screw approx every 8" or so) with washers under the head. Then make cuts approx 1/2 of the way through the foam so that a rod can be pushed into the foam. Allow the handles to sit on the floor (or some other surface) so all the foam does is hold them to the wall. This will work for rods with or without reels. If the cuts are difficult to see, make the first 1/8" of the cut in the shape of a small "V". It works with a flat wall or in between exposed studs in a garage.
my garage has exposed rafters.. so i made a frame out of 1 x 4 that fit inside the rafter, then covered it with a piece of panneling.. now come down from one end about a footand drill a hole and put a bolt in it.. that lets your tray swing down.. might have to put a stop on it.. there is several ways you can latch it up.. lay a piece of cardboard over the top to keep dust out.. i layed a thin piece of foam in it for the rod and reel to lay on.. i can get 6 - 8 rods in a tray.. keep some older rods in a rack. that way if some one breaks in hopefully they don't look up and just take my old stuff
