Steel wool!!!!! I know sounds crazy, right?!! Well I went to police motorcycle school years ago and the Harley Reps had us cleaning the chrome on the police bikes with steel wool and it worked great. I just cleaned my wheels up on my trailer last week and it is still the best way to make them look new.

Are they clear coated? If they are, then you need to strip them of the clear coat and clean them with aluminum cleaner then have them reclear coated. Or have them polished and clear coated.

If they are not clear coated, any aluminum wheel cleaner will fix you right up.

If they are clear coated, try loosely bunched aluminum foil dipped in acetone. Then use fine steel wool - again dipped in acetone.

use the dull side of aluminum foil & soapy water, Works great to remove rust off chrome plated steel! Mothers Mag Wheel Polish works well on non-clear coated aluminum albeit laborious without drill mounted buff'n pad...

use 0000 steel wool and rubbing alcohol, this also works great on glass windows, cleans the smokers film off the inside of windshield (thank goodness I quit)..

SOS pads are the ticket for aluminum wheels.

Using the same grade steel wool vs. brass wool, the brass wool wil be less abrasive.
