Decided to start a new thread
Wow!..... I just saw your other thread. I hate this for you. Water can get in the smallest of holes and looks like it seeped in somewhere. I know you've put a ton into this boat but it seems as if lot's of work still to be done. Would be nice to see here sea worther again. Good luck.
Electric, that is a damned shame. There are tons of guys on here that tell you or maybe even help fix that ol girl back better than new
. Wish I was closer I would try to help, thats tuff but its a new year start her all over again
I have a 1987 Laser Bass Boat an the transom on our's wasn't as bad as that ( Peeling back off ) but My budds an I decided to go the Seacast route basically u cut out where u have already peeled it off get all the Old Delapidated wood etc out of there the back skin put it back up duct tape all holes an then the Seacast mix it pour it in an im tellin u Rock hard an was relatively cheap i think we did ours for about $250 an our time for work an prep time an then u jus have to finish the back off paint it etc
That sucks, If I were you Id just go the seacast route. There is another product called ARJAY transom (Putty, I think). Supposedly as good just a little cheaper. Just finish peeling the back skin off, clean the rest of the material out, laminate new skin on, Fill, glass the top. I then used a roll on gel/epoxy application paint and painted all of the repaired areas for the esthetics, comes in back, white, and all other primary colors of the color wheel, and you're done for around $400 total. Wont break the bank but WILL allow you to continue to get your money's worth out of the rig.![]()
This was a VERY easy process to do and the best for the value IMO. Less messy and A LOT less glass work than going back with wood. Plus, it'll outlast the rest of the boat.
Plus electric, your older model has a flat back and would be lot easier to replace than the newer hulls. Half of the deconstruction work is done, lol. Sorry for your trouble.
Dang, just a personal opinion, but i would try to find another hull to mount everything on. that's going to be a very expensive job and unless it's done correctly you are going to have problems.
I gotta ask, did this happen while trailering down the highway? Never mind, just read the other thread.
Good luck with it!! I did mine in '05 and was close to what yours just did.![]()
I'm pretty sure I am going to go with a traditional wood/ glass transom. I am going to cut about a foot out of the rear cap, lift and start digging in. Got to get the property taxes paid first and then I get to start working on the boat again![]()
Going to be doing a lot of reading this month on glass lay up as I have not done a glass project like this before. Just little hole patches in the past that always turned out like crap.
The glass work is not hard. If you done a small areas then you'll be fine and if you have any questions just shoot me an IM. I know you must have been sick when it happened, but it CAN be fixed for not that much money if you do the work.
On the wood transom I would build it like Basscat and instead of 2- 3/4" pieces do the 3-1/2" pieces will give it more strength with a layer of glass between each sheet.

Well fish jsu watching what Frank has done and is doing, if I had a place to do it I'd put mine out of commision for a little while and go thru mine but I don't have a place to do it except outside. I just want to get my bottom hull fixed and run mine for 2 1/2 yrs and get me a bigger boat.
