    E-Tec Overheated

Rusty, I've got 200 HO E-Tec that we set the HOT alarm off on yesterday. We had this happen before (trying to get our motor height adjusted) and the dealer said that when this happens the computer doubles the oil consumption. Is this correct and if so how long does it run double oil? We took it in a month ago because the plugs were fouled from running so much oil and he remapped the computer. Everything was perfect again but I don't want to have to shell out another bunch of $$$$ for spark plugs!

Is this an '05 or '06 engine?

If it's an '05, is the serial number lower than 5109291?

If so, take it to your dealer and have him refer to service bulletin 2005-03S

Thanks for responding! It is an 05. Is this something the dealer has to remap every time an alarm goes off?

No, there is a upgrade map that will eliminate the resetting of double oil and will change a couple of other things, the dealer only needs to load it once.

Do you know why the motor overheated?

There are upgraded maps that become available from time to time, but the motor does not need a re-map should an alarm go off.

The bulletin I mentioned is for drilling a bypass water passage in the thermostat housing to cure a possible overheat problem in certain situations. Your dealer will check to see if it pertains to your motor.

The engine overheated because we were fishing a tournament on the mississippi river pool 19, right here in the middle of the worst drought ever. Got stuck in a mud flat that was never there before. at least not that close to the surface. After pushing our way off we must have had some goo in the water intakes.

My 2005 200HO water-temp alarm sounded on me. The computer stated that the port side had run too warm. Dealer took off top of thermostat holder and there was a piece of aluminum in the chamber. Probably something from one of the passages that did not get blown out. Has not had problem since. My motor had already had the holes drilled in these areas.

Inky, code 38 is still there we just dont see it much....

The drilling of the thermo pockets was to correct a over heat after a very long idle period.

There were just a few that need this correction.

While I agree with your post Johnrude....I think we should let everyone know that....the final decision on what is covered is BRP's call.

    Re: E-Tec Overheated (Bassmeister)

You ought to flush the motor good after being in that mud. I have set my overheat horn off twice on Guntersville, after running through a weedbed. Appartently, the water intakes, and milfoil and hydrilla don't get along.

Usually I notice after running in and idling through the no wake zone.
