    Milky lower unit oil

I just drained the lower unit oil from my 1988 Johnson 150GT and it was pretty milky looking. Kind of like coffee with some cream in it. How much of a problem is this? If it's a problem, what do I have to do to fix it?

P.S. I didn't refill the lower unit with fresh oil yet.

Your getting water in with the oil somewhere, don't run till ya take it to the shop and have them find the problem.. Looks like you caught it just in time..

Any chance that this can be a do it yourself type of repair?

I had the seals replaced in mine for 200 bucks it was worth that to me because they did a leak down test

They have to do that test to determine where it is leaking at.. I don't think I would tackle it myself..

+1 on having it repaired at shop. Will run about 160 to 215 to repair depending on leak. Lower units can be tricky and possibly cheaper to repair now than later.

Thanks guys. I just dropped the boat off to my local marine repair shop. The bad news is that I'm going to miss the smallmouth bass opener on Lake Erie this weekend. I guess I'll have to go turkey hunting instead.
