That looks awesome. I plan on wet sanding my boat as soon as I get the carpet and recessed trolling motor tray in. Do you have a link for the meguires polish?? Thanks in advance!

I have been using the Mequires marine cleaner wax every spring on my boat. I just finished it up last weekend. I think it does a great job in removing any surface blemishes, plus adding a layer of wax for protection. The end result is a nice, deep shine.

You can also get the Meguiars kit at West Marine. I got the same thing there. Now, I just need to break down and get started on the wet sanding and get the boat looking good again.

Re: Meguires Fiberglass Restoration System..w/pics (ProcraftMike)

I chatted with Billy over the course of 3-4 days. He is a great guy!!!! Walked me through everything he did and answered every question I had.

Have gotten through step one of my restroation. 1,000 grit sand papering is complete. A lot of the rough areas are now smooth. Have a dull finish on the boat right now. Will get the 1,500 and 2,000 done this weekend. I have on order the Meguires restoration system and hope to have that early next week. Thinking by next weekend, will be putting all of the hardware, etc back onto the boat.

If anyone is looking for a high speed sander to do this project, I got mine at Harbor Freight for $19.99. Came with the chuck, a foam pad, a polishing pad, and some sand paper. All are velcro stick on. I think that it's big enough to do the job. Will find out as soon as I get into the compound part of this.

Billy - again, thank you for all of your help chatting with me, walking me through it. You are what BBC is all about.

    Steve;
What was the part number for the H.F. polisher? I see one for $39.95, but none for $19.95.
    Thanks, Rich

looks god man... like night and day. i also dd the wetsanding and the 3m compound but you need to follow it up with this stuff called final glaze from 3m to get the fine scratches that makes the gelcoat look dull after the compund

    Hello guys,

I just got one of those.. they were 19.99 on the net but was a lil more at the local HF store.. I paid $29.00. I didnt want to wait. Also was the cheapest I could find even cheaper than ebay.

nice shine on the boat BTW.. I used Aqua buff 1000 and then mothers carnuba wax.. But I'll check out this Meguires now.

Sorry - I have been out of town on business and have not had a chance to check on these posts. This is the one I got: http://www.harborfreight.com/c...92623

Now - it was on sale for $19.99 when I bought it. Looks like the price is now $29.99 on sale. Still a good buy. I am done with my boat using the Meguiar's system and it looks showroom ready. Only did the top so far - will get to the side probably next week.

That is the next big project for mine as well. I just finished putting new stringers and a new floor in mine. Now the finish is on the 'to do' list. I bought the same polisher from Harbor Freight , probably at the same Schererville store as Steve . Very nice looking finish on that Ranger! Hope mine buffs out as well as yours.

Re: Meguires Fiberglass Restoration System..w/pics (ta3834bbl)

I just ordered the Meguires 3 step gel coat restoration stuff, but am very new at 'boat care' in general (have had 1st/used boat now for, oh, 7 months now).

My boat's a 97 Astro 1800 and I've already done a fair amount of work on it including putting in new carpet. Now I'd like to see the red/black 'sparkle' of the top/cap come back to life (very oxidized up there, but still okay on the back/sides).

Can I expect to need to 'prep' for the Meguires application(s) by wet sanding beforehand? Will I defintely need a power buffer/tool such as those mentioned in this post? (Oh boy! Another power tool! The wife will be thrilled!)
