I was wondering if after you remove the old carpet if you could sand off the old glue with a sander?

Mine was so sun rotted that it only required a wire brushing. Laquer thinner worked on the spots that were stubborn.
I tried sanding first, but it did not workJust good old fashion scraping was all that worked for me. I spent about 14 to 16 hours removing and then scraping the lid and deck.
Here 's a link from my experience.

Some of the other guy's said a wire wheel worked for them.

Thanks for the help guys.
Curtis I still have the pictures you sent me of the deck you built for your Ranger.
Still planning on doing it to mine. The wife is putting her bids in to leave one of the padded bench seats in for her to napp on when we are out fishing. I guess I could do that for her...LOL
FishMoore I had already looked over your post the other day.
Man just looking at it is making me dred starting this project!!

It's really not as bad as it looks. Just takes a while to scrape. Just break out some cold one's and do it![]()

I bought my carpet from Cabelas. It was on sale a week or so ago online.. went with the ultimate(20 oz) light gray.
I sanded my floors, and wire brushed the lids, came out good. All I lack is scraping the inner edges of the lids and decks. I'm growing weary of prep work
