When I removed the old carpet the deck lids had primer or paint on them. Its comming off big pieces. When I go to install the carpet should I respray with primer or would it be ok to glue directly to the aluminum?

If you use contact cement,it will eat thru the paint anyway. If ya use some of the other type of carpet adhesive test it on a spot that still has good paint.

i didnt have any primer on my alum. lids. I used contact cement and that worked the best. The outdoor carpet adhesive worked for larger areas, but not smaller ones.
Just remember, you wont see the paint or primer anyways. Just scrape it off and throw the new carpet over it. I just recarpeted mine last week.

Grind off as much paint as you can where the carpet will attach. I recarpeted mine over the winter and I am having an issue that some of the paint i thought was still tight, is coming loose and from under the glue. The glue is stuck tight, but only to the paint, and when it comes off the aluminum, the carpet got a bubble. Take the time and do it right the first time, redoing it sucks!!!
