One thing that I will miss this Memorial Day weekend……

While living in Texas, we would sit by the busiest launch on Grapevine Lake in lawn chairs and coolers and watch full fledged boat ramp follies. It’s amazing what inexperienced boat folks will do when they notice people drinking, laughing, and noticing they’re being eyed. They try and speed up and then really get in a jam. Every time there would be a few ask for our help and we would gladly oblige. Cheap entertainment at its finest! Try it, you’ll like it. Yes, my boat stayed in the garage on Memorial and Labor Day, every year.

That entertainment is available at any nearby lake, not just the ones in TX lol.
There's lots of decaffeinated brands that are just as tasty as the real thing.

    Hi Mike.

LOL yeah it is comical for sure.. furiating if you are in any kind of rush or hurry taking out.. we'll just sit in the boat at the ramp and watch sometimes.. i was putting in one time and there was a jeep with big tires/chrome rims with a double jet ski trailer could not get it backed down.. line kept getting longer and longer.. i finally went down there was like do you want me to do it for you? guy stepped out about 6'7-6'9 just got drafted by the NBA.. Gary Clarke, played for Cincinnati in college. Even funnier thing is he went to high school with my younger brother

Best free entertainment on a hot summer's day is at the busy boat ramps.

I went decades without putting my own boat on the water on a holiday weekend. My sister owned a house in the 2000s about 50 yards from a busy boat ramp, and we routinely hurt ourselves laughing at the nimrods. Especially on Memorial Day weekend, with a lot of boats hitting the water for the first time all year…or ever.

A few years ago a friend clued me in to fishing on the Monday [only] of a 3-day weekend. By Monday, all the yahoos have sunburn and hangovers. They barely crawl out of bed by noon, and they have to vacate their parking lot or rental place by 5 p.m., so very few of them bother going onto the water at all on Monday. Maybe they’re harder drinkers up here than other places, but for sure if we were on the water early on Monday and pulled out by early afternoon, we saw less traffic on the water than on some week days.

I’m absolutely going to the launch Monday!! North pass Manchac over here!! Nice and shady under the interstate.. I’m not bringing my boat, might bring a catfish pole and some nightcrawlers but I’m going for the show!!

A couple of times a year, I have to pull up and straighten out the trailer once, to get just the right angle. That’s on really tight ramps only, and very occasionally. There are some things I don’t do well, but backing a trailer is not one of them. You can laugh all you want at my kitchen technique!

Some of the best boat launchers/retrievers continue to run over other boats on the water and kill people.

It’s so cold and nasty here in Southwest Ohio. I don’t think the ramps will be crowded at all this memorial weekend lol good time to go fishing which I haven’t found time to do yet this year.
