Alton Jones Jr forgot how to roll cast and skip, he was fishing a bridge & it looked like my nephew bluegill fishing. Shaking a minner will get you out of practice. No shade, I love Livescope and also like the new BPT format. But just like Taku said at the Elite weigh in, never throwing a baitcaster will make you hate them when you use them haha!

Wish they'd hold these HH events on true big Bass factories. Could be worse though, there's always the Elite Series or the Sabine

Three pound average isn’t bad when they aren’t yet targeting size.

Pretty lake for sure, kind of reminds me of Smith Lake or Hartwell

Smith mountain isn’t quite Florida or Texas, but there’s been three double digit fish weighed in this spring and multiple 30 pound bags to win, with a 37 pound bag weighed in February. And I can’t count the number of 7-8 pounders weighed over the past few months.

The main issue with heavy hitters on sml is the time of year. These fish are 2-3 weeks off the spawn. The big ones are there, trust me. Most of them are just spawned out and haven’t had enough time to recoup.

Had this tourney been in February or March it would prob take a 10 pounder to win big fish and huge bags to make the cut.

Well my fingers are still crossed that we see some monsters caught, these guys always seem to catch whatever lives there.

Last HH event down in FL was one of the most exciting events I've ever seen. The one where Jordan Lee was wenching 7-8lb fish out of cheese, and KVD caught a monster on the final day to win big fish.

    These HH events are awesome.

Very similar to Hartwell, except not so many spotted bass, if any.

Your are spot on, Michael Neal still sticking em on a typical pre/post spawn blade bait right in the spawning pockets and areas. Never watched an event here, action is pretty good.

Can anyone tell where Neal is fishing? Looks like the upper Roanoke River?

Upper Roanoke or upper blackwater river judging by the slope of the bank and color of the water.

What is the draw of still using the "tournament provided boats"? I know they did this in the early days of the MLF stuff (I used to love seeing the guys choose the Basscats over the other brands - at least I assumed it was their choice), but now on BPT I thought it was strictly angler's boats. Also surprised they are still doing A/B, but I suppose there is a reason. With only 30 anglers though to me it doesn't make much sense. Maybe better for the "going for the win or going for the daily big fish" angle later on.

Not complaining, just curious. Maybe they still under a previous existing contract? Getting more exposure for Lowrance as a Trail Sponsor? Although I see a few PP Moves...but no Garmin FFS allowed, only AT?

@BassCatBoats can probably expand on them still using "tournament boats" for some events...

And I know it's been said many many times this year already, but BPT's production is like a breath of fresh air after watching BASS :(. I am a fan of both, watch both, but do lean towards BASS b/c of angers I am fans of, but boy BASS has been a Sh$tshow this year. BPT seems to be maturing nicely... Head down, just get it done style - no drama this year.

Neal is in the upper Roanoke and has been fishing the shaded bluff wall from R50 and north. Last I looked he was near what we call the “tennis courts” and he might fish all the way to Moorman’s. Pretty much my “home water” as I live at R52.

Crochet is at the mouth of Lynnville Creek right now (R61). There are some good deep laydowns in front of him if he’s out the bladed hog down. Might be too deep for him though.

MLF seems to have fixed most of the things that were holding them back the last few years especially. They really do produce a terrific fan friendly product.

He was just throwing a chop style glide, I did find it interesting how much rod input and retrieve speed he was giving it though.

Blade bait this time of year would be interesting for sure. It's easily my favorite winter bait. It's a big fish bait in my experience.
