    Why Sabine?

Seems like BASS has a tournament on the Sabine River every year recently. Why? I like a good grinder tournament as much as the next guy, but there are plenty of other places where BASS could go and have the field struggle to catch a limit or have a good bag weigh 10 pounds. Just wondering why they constantly go back to the Sabine instead of going other places?

Dollar bills. Chamber of commerce pays to play. BASS only goes where they get paid to go. It's the reason they go to the same places year after year in a country full of thousands and thousands of lakes.

Not sure if this was directed towards me, but I wasn't complaining. Genuinely curious as to why they go to the Sabine instead of heading to the Ohio River or somewhere on the Mississippi other than Lacrosse? Makes sense if they are getting paid more to go back to the Sabine.

I personally don't think they do a very good job of trying to market their product to other venues. They have repeat customers with good turnouts and good money, so they keep it in that circle.

I think a lot of that comes down to human nature for those working at BASS. Do you really want to do a bunch of research on venues, negotiate with the chamber, figure out off limits areas and local regulations, or just pick a venue you go to all the time where everything is already figured out?

I like it. Watching them struggle is more relatable to majority of the country and fisherman.

more importantly, BASS is a business with their main goal to be profitable. They go wherever municipalities will pay

I agree. But the definition of that is called laziness and poor marketing & management. As a partial business owner, I'm constantly looking for new customers, venturing into different parts of the state, and understanding the markets in those parts of the state, etc.

Having said all of that, I personally like the Sabine River events.

Totally agreed, I think BASS does a pretty poor job of expanding their venues, and in many ways have reverted to being essentially a regional circuit with a yearly vacation up north.

The Sabine River and Orange, TX is an absolutely fabulous host city. They bring it all out for the level of events they are hosting. Fishing is very closely followed across that I-10 corridor and people come out to support the event, plus the festival at the Elite’s brings out the general public. There are drawbacks beyond the smaller fish catches and areas they can access. Still, overall, the platform is levelized by those limitations and the drama of 100 miles runs plays well on television for a closure. Anglers can access multiple backwaters depending on their practice findings. If they are releasing large water flows from Toledo Bend, the River bends themselves can produce well. Those areas up river are seldom touched by most anglers because of the fuel and flow limitations.

This! BASS goes with what they know and are comfortable with. Quality fishing isn’t a concern for them in the least.

Fork, then Sabine. The yin & yang of bass fishing. Highest highs, then the lowest of lows. It’s a reality check.

I enjoy watching the Sabine more than Fork !! I fish the Arkansas River Navigation Channel (The Ditch) here all the time and Sabine looks like the ditch !
