    Ross Barnett Reservoir

Fished Ross Barnett Reservoir with an old friend Saturday while visiting my daughter in Brandon. We caught a mess of buck bass up shallow and a few nice keeper females in the 3# to 4# range a bit deeper. Mostly on Texas-rigged worms and lizards. Biggest problem we had was staying away from all the darn crappie fishermen. We had a Triton bassboat with 4 guys in it pull up within 3 feet of us and start fishing for crappie. Thought for a minute they were going to tie up to my buddy's boat

I have to say that fishing vegetation and other structure on a shallow lake with murky water is a LOT different than fishing a deeper lake with gin clear water like Bull Shoals lake in N. Arkansas. I may have to come back in a few weeks when the females finally come in shallow for the spawn. Toss a lizard into the lily pads, wait for that 6# female to take the bait and then hang on! Doesn't get much better than that

Sounds like ya'll had a blast. Those crappie fisherman can be hell. I haven't gotten to go to the rez lately, but me and a friend went to lake lincoln state park on a camping trip this past weekend, and wore them out my five biggest were probably 18-20lbs.

Sounds like you guys had a blast on your camping trip and caught some pretty nice fish! I'll have to give that place a look after we relocate back to MS.

It's a pretty good park nice facilities and such. Plus the fishing is pretty good most of the time. Another good state lake that you will have to go to is Calling Panther it is located in Crystal Springs (just south of Jackson). I promise that the fishing there will not disapoint you.

Yeah I know what you mean. I just recently moved. Which I didn't move as far as ya'll are going to, but it's still a lot of work. So are ya'll going to move to Brandon? Once everything gets going if you need some help getting stuff in the house or anything just let me know.

    Re: Ross Barnett Reservoir (mgrice1981)

Thanks Matt. We'll be hiring a mover to pack and move all our stuff once we sell here and buy there so I'll let the boys in the business take care of all that hard work. It'll cost me a bunch (~$8,000) but it's worth it.

We've been looking at homes around the Hwy 471 area south of Hwy 25 (Lakeland Dr.). Anything in the Brandon or Reservoir area is fine with us. Particularly something on the north shore. I intend to join the Jackson Bass Club again when I get there. I belonged to that group years ago and they agreed to accept me back in the club when I return. I intend to rejoin Springwater Rance again as well. It's a private fishing area out near Johns, MS. Has something like 13 lakes with the biggest at 60 acres stocked with Florida strain bass back in the 80's. I also belonged to that group years ago. It's a fun place to fish where some guys have landed fish as big as 13# or better.

So the location we're seeking would give us a short run to our daughter's home in Brandon, to a ramp at the Rez and to Johns, MS.

Yeah I can't blame ya on spending the cash on getting professional movers. Moving is one big headache. I moved off of hwy 468 in between hwy 18 and Brandon. It is a nice area, and A good location puts me 10 min. from work, and 15 min. from pelahatchie trading post and 25 min. from the ramp at hwy 43. It is a much easier drive than the one I had from Terry. Yeah one of my friends and a few people I work with are members of springwater ranch.
