The NC Coast has all sorts of inlets similar including the Neuse River and New Bern. They will slide up and down the coast with bass fishing events where they can entertain and host them. The area sure will change some with freshwater enthusiasts mixing in.

3rd day looked to be the best weights but either way its a special place.. even if the fishing isnt great while you're there, it is still beautiful water to be on and such a cool area, quiet, laid back, nice people.. Truly is a great place no matter what..

That would be cool to see them do the trent/neuse.. they say the neuse is back and better then the Albemarle right now.. New bern can be a little sketchy but it is a cool area also!

Neuse isn't back....it gets progressively worse every year. For the last 10 years nice bags have been caught up the river every weekend, and dumped in Lawson's Creek, only to die from salt or get eaten by stripers. If there is a tx on the Neuse with decent payout, it will be won in Pungo or Alligator. The Neuse had a huge crawfish spawn about 10 years ago, and the fish was as healthy as I've ever seen it. 3-5lb were plentiful, and you could catch 13" fish that weighed dang near 2lb. 100 keepers a day was no problem. You can still catch alot of fish there, but its getting tougher and tougher to catch those better fish. Storms have killed alot of the fish that were way up the backs of creeks over the years.

Other than first place I wasn't overly impressed with it and most of the guys seemed to struggle. Looked like a nice place though.

Yes Atlantic storms can devastate the rivers, but it also remakes them in the process. And like was said above, catching fish is secondary to the scenery. The hunting down there is something to behold too. In a few years when I retire we will be making many trips down. The first item on my retirement bucket list, travel to all the NC lighthouses. PBS has a show that airs every Thursday night, NC Weekend. It highlight things to do across the state and more often than not has features from the eastern part of the state.

Eastern NC (and Eastern VA for that matter) is some of the most beautiful, scenic places in the country.

And outside of Texas and Florida, I'd take NC then VA third and fourth for bass fishing.

That high water doesn’t come up out of the ocean,it comes from the eastern part of the sounds. The water in the east end of the sounds can actually be low during a hurricane. A large rain storm like Floyd in 1999 floods the whole sound and can kill the fish. Hurricane Irene in 2011 caused and near total fish kill in the western end of Albemarle sound from a storm surge. It devastated Chowan and Roanoke, there was huge rafts of dead fish piled up. It was sickening and heartbreaking to see. The Hwy 45 bridge across Roanoke has a USGS water monitor on it,it showed oxygen content in the river at 0% for nine days. Everything that couldn’t get out of the water died, except blackfish or bowfins or grinnels, whatever you call them. I never saw a dead one of them.
yep flooding that causes that swamp water run off.. im sorry to change the subject but while Rip I believe you have one of the best names especially in the bass fishing world, im sure anyone whose fished in NC/locally in the last 30-50 knows your name as it stands out and youve been fishing tournaments longer then ive been alive.. But another name ive seen and noticed about long as yours is local tournament fisherman Flash Butts, everytime i see it in tournament results it makes me laugh

James river is dead. So it the Chickahominy. All the central and eastern VA guys are fishing Smith Mountain Lake or NC now.
Hang on. I'll help you in 77 minutes.

Siltation comes and goes over time and greatly alters those tidal waters.

Most James/Chick teams now struggle to scratch out a 22 lb bag. It's sad around here.
