From (and based SOLELY on your info above), I'd make the following observations:

-RPM's: You're pretty close. Could perhaps use to spool the engine up another 100-150 RPM's.

-Water Pressure: TOO LOW. If your engine mounting height is set for best handling, you might benefit from blocking off 2-3 of the side "water intakes" at the top of the inlets (see: http://www.bbcboards.net...wpics )

-Prop: I'd recommend that you have this prop worked, or perhaps try a Fury (25 Pitch, more than likely would get you closer to your target RPM). Mark Croxton can work his "magic" on your Tempest Plus, if you'd prefer.

-Hull: Look carefully at the transom and pad of your hull. Observe to see if you have any transducers, paddle wheels, etc. that are protruding downward into the flow of water across the transom. Additionally... take a close look at the last 2' of the keel and pad. Make sure there are no abnormalities.... "hooks", etc. Before making any adjustments here.... make sure you do your research- and find someone VERY knowledgeable to assist you.

If that's what you want to do.... call Eric. He's got some interesting "do it yourself" products that can be added to your engine.... most of which have no effect on the "emissions footprint" of the engine.

    Re: bullet proof? (transamz9)

My opinion has always been that a heavier boat needs a little more setback..

Ask around, maybe someone in your area has a set of 2" spacers you can try. You will need a new , longer bolt set, also remember that you need to raise the motor when ya move it further back to compansate for the angle of the transom.

I don't trust someone that just wants my money and advertisement. There just is'nt alot of people out there that build their own motors so if I can get 80+ out of my z9 then I can feel like I did when I started my first rebuilt motor. It was a great feeling to know I did it.</TD></TR></TABLE>

The bottom end ain't gonna hold 500 horses for long.

    Lou works better then "mouth"

Any boat that actualy gets up on the pad will have chine walk but with proper balance of boat and seat time you will learn how to drive it.. Notice I didn't say throught it!!

Putting the motor further back will let ya use less positive trim and get the motor higher for more stern lift which lill let the boat run flatter but with less contact surface!! This equals less slip and more speed!!

Call Simon as mentioned before, alot of his stuff is bolt on, just like hydrotech for the yamahas.

More setback will probably help also

I started looking at adding setback to a heavy hull last spring, after I added the new steering cables, jack plate, prop work, and the add ons I needed to the engine, I cut my loses and bought a bullet.

I have all of the Simon mods, if you have any questions about that, just ask. I too bought my boat for comfort. If youve ever sat behind an Allison console and in an Allison bucket, you'll be hooked! (I'm talking solely about the 2 seat BasSPort Pro).

    Re: (RobShaw1)

I don't want to undercut what you are trying to do but some hulls just don't have the design to be fast. I had a cobra 201d (20ft double consol) which weighed 1450 lb (hull weight), with a 225efi it ran 63-65 at 4350 elevation. I had worked with a lot of props and prop mods to achieve that speed. Step 1 to go faster was a 07 300xs, this motor ran up to 72 mph with the boat completely empty. I only had a 8"setback because I wasn't sure the transum would handle more. I did the same prop thing with the 300 and was only able to pick up about 2mph which took me to the 72mph. To complete the speed thing I bought a Stroker and now loaded to fish my best is 95 at the same elevation. This is with a prop I run in the winter when looking for a big top end. With the regular prop I run 91-92. I guess what I am saying you can do a lot, spend a lot of money and still not be satisfied with the performance. I made the plunge and love it, the power and speed is there when you want it. It is expensive to go fast and you do loose some reliability even with a stock 300xs.
