    St.Joseph River in South Bend

We went out last Saturday and the smallieswere schooled up in deep water and had the feed bag on. I caught several 2 and 3 pounders on grubs and crankbaits plus a 9 pound steelhead trout.

Anybody been on the river for steelhead or salmon yet? I'm waiting for the weather to get a little cooler. Talked to Dick Parher at Parker's bait he said probably the end of the mo. or so.

    Mix,

New to this site and just getting back into bass fishing (finally an empty nester) if you ever need someone to fish with let me know. Your boat or mine, matters not to me. I'd just like to fish with someone that has experience on the St. Joe.

Re: St.Joseph River in South Bend (Brian Craft)

    was out on Tues - 6/7/2009 -
Was told right out of the gate at Maggies from a local that the fishing was slow.
We did not tear them up but did catch a few. ( was out about 3 hours)
Everything we caught was off drops next to deep water ( 8 ft plus) and near good current. Caught four LM...3 keepers - 1 dink.
Caught nothing off flat areas. caught nothing of weed edges, though there were fish there, we just could not get them to hit.
