    Curing powder paint

Hey guys, i need a little help. I bought some unpainted bass jigs with weed guards and I want to powder paint them and then cure them in toaster oven. It just dawned on me that the weed guards might melt, am I correct in that asumption and if that's the case is there any way to prevent them from melting while heating to paint and curing them. Thanks for any help it will be much appreciated.

I have read that if you wrap the weed guard with aluminium foil it won't melt. I haven't tried it though.

Thanks, I might give that a try unless somebody else posts a better way.

Most of the jigs I make that are to be powered painted are poured without the fiber guard. They are glued in after painting. The few that are power coated with the fiber guard I use a Teflon tube to protect it. It's kind of like a straw but made out of thicker material. This works well. I've never tried the aluminum foil.

I have tried what you want to do with little success. Jannsnetcraft sells weegaurd cover to use while powder coating (They work OK, but a pain),,,,but curing in the oven without distorting or melting the weedgaurds is another BIG problem.

I would use vinyl jig paing and then coat with a clear coat like the water based one sold at Janns.

I usually just lower the heat a little and extend the cure time, it works fairly well.

On my oven I used to put the heat at 280 - 300 degrees and cook em for a while and they turn out pretty good and hard.

Anymore I just glue the guard in after its all said and done.

if you are going to powder coat i would remove the weedguard and reinstall after the curing process.
