    Best place to buy lead

Where is the best place to buy lead? I know I can get it from Jann's, Barlow's or BPS, but I was wanting to buy it local to avoid the shipping cost.

Re: Best place to buy lead (Landinlunkers)

I buy mine off ebay. With flat rate priority shipping it only about 8.00 for up to 60 pounds (or however much fits in the box.) Do a search there for "lead ingot".

I get my from the local scrap dealer. Get it for .10 to .20 cents a pound. Just have to clean it, wire brush does the trick very well. Melt it down, flux and skimm.
Its pretty simple and you can save a ton of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
    this way.

talk to your friends. someone probably knows someone in commercial construction/renovations. Ask them if they ever demo or renovate hospitals, clinics, dentist offices (or anywhere with a xray room).

Rooms are all lined with a a thin lead (100% pure) curtain behind the drywall. When demo'd - the lead has to be removed because it is toxic. In most cases, these guys are paying someone to take it away and will give you as much as you can take for free or maybe a case of beer or something. My buddy just got enough for a sailboat keel for free this way.
