    question about rod handle replacement

I have a couple of rods I would like to replace the cork handles on. I was wandering if anyone had any ideas on the best way to get of the old cork without destroying the blank. Any help would be appreciated. thanx----shane

Re: question about rod handle replacement (bumpnjerk)

I have used rasps and files and such to remove a bulk of the cork. You can use sand paper to get the smaller chunks off, or use some heat and a scraper. It just takes a lot of elbow grease and work. There is no real magic item that will make it easy. Use what ever you can, but do not get into the fibers.
many foolks remove part or all of the ork/EVA to make split grips.
There are some articles out there from BBc sponsors- http://www.georgescustomrods.c...1.htm
Also, try a search for split grips.
There are pictures and information from other threads.

Replacing the entire cork would not be that hard as you would not have to get everything off of the blank.

    hope this helps

I use a box knife and scorge the cork adn then take a pair of pliers comes right off. The take a really fine sand paper adn sand glue off.

    - That seems to be the easiest and quickest way I've found too.
