I have been making a few rods into Split grip/no foregrip handles and found my 7'6" Falcon Cara's are .5oz lighter now and my 7'6" Falcon Cara T7 is .4oz lighter.
Now I need to add a balance weight to the butt of the rod. Any ideas on how to do this? I normally used grip tape to make a knob on the butt. I was thinking about placing a flat sinker next to the butt and retaping the knob.

A effective and inexpensive way is to put weight in the blank before you put the butt/or grip on. What I do is take a piece of cork or EVA and push it into the rear of the blank then add the desired weight(lead) and make it tight so it doesn't rattle with another piece of cork or EVA then glue the butt/grip on.
On finished rods that your split gripping you can carefully, by hand, drill out the butt into the blank and use the same method I posted above. Push some EVA into the blank after the weight is inserted then lightly sand so it's even with the butt and it looks factory.
The cap on the Cara's are plastic but i guess you could still do that. I might try on an old rod first. Thanks

Be careful on the rods with the plastic butts. They have a hub that they use to glue the butt cap into the blank. Usually enough glue squeezes out that the butt won't fall off if you drill it out, but 9 times out of 10 there will be a lot of glue in the blank and drilling it out can cause it to crack. Your best bet is to just replace the rear cork and weigh it as desired.
