Questions on deer stands

We have a law requiring a 2"x4" tag with your name and address on any deer stand not erected on your property. I assume other states have similar laws. What do you use for something that holds up multiple years?

And while we're talking stands, I use ladder stands and hang-on stands in a few places. I was going to pick up some bike cables and padlocks to go around the tree and keep the seats locked in the upright position. The goal is to prevent theft and unauthorized use while keeping the seat a little drier in the process. Any better solutions that you've found?

we are not required to put tags on our stand but i do i found a sheet of aluminum and use a letter punch set to put my name and number on it and wire it to ladder.

That's a good idea. Don't have letter punches but I might figure out something

look into dog tags. if you can find them cheap.

Then again; if I'm hunting out of a lock on stand and using spikes, the stand comes down the tree and out of the woods with me.

After having several stands stolen over the years,I started unscrewing the bottom 3 steps and taking them with me to and from the stand. Never had another issue.

I use screw-in steps for a couple of stands on my property and have done that as well, esp. after I arrived one day and found someone had added a lift line and a pile of apples out front. On other land, I have to use climbing sticks or ladder stand

I was hunting on a buddy's land yesterday. Found a new looking stand, called my buddy to see if he let anyone else hunt. He is going to check with one other fella today. If it ain't his stand and it's still there Saturday I guess I'll have me a new stand. It had a bag attached, I looked in to see if there was a name but no luck. It's an eerie feeling finding something on private property that shouldn't be there.
Also, what if I had shot in his direction, not knowing he was there, and hit him with my 30.06. That would be terrible.

Use to do this also, just have to be real careful because those wholes wear out after awhile from unscrewing them so much and had one give out on me.
