Sand it down with 600 or better grit. Remove all of the old varnish and apply new varnish. It is a Rod varnish that is used it will hold up better than any other procuct out there. It will flex with the rod and resists chipping and recracking.

DON'T OVER SAND THE BLANK THOUGH!!!!
