You guys can twist and dance around words all you want. The truth is that EVERYONE can be saved under ALL circumstances without baptism. Not certain circumstances.
Hart- that's not at all close to what I was trying to say. And FYI, I was baptized.

I believe that Baptism is an outward symbol of an inward change and an act of obedience. Baptism does not save you and if you were Baptised before Salvation then you should do it again after the fact.
I also agree that we are not saved by works but unto good works. In other words a redeemed born again person should bear much good "fruit" by living a life pleasing in God's sight. Do we always do this? Of course not but we should always be praying, repenting, and asking God to help us live according to His Will.

I have had this type discussion with many Catholics and it is always the same. Those I have talked with bring up the “once saved, always saved” debate. Those discussions seemed to always culminate with their belief that you need something more (i.e., the Catholic Church, works and performances of man, idolatry, polytheism, etc.) to supplement the work Jesus accomplished on the cross. All roads seem to lead back to the Catholic Church for salvation…
Did anyone notice in the video how the narrator said something about the Catholic Church and some kind of practice assisting the believer in getting “closer to Mary, and to Jesus?” Mary first…. And again, Mary has nothing to do with any of this.
So you guys just believe everyone in the world is going to heaven? It doesn’t matter what we do, what we think, nothing? Atheists are going to heaven, unrepentant murderers are going to heaven?
Yikes! We may be farther apart in our beliefs than I was thinking.
I have never met a Christian that thinks that. I am not going to explain everything involved in how to truly be/become a Christian. You may be right to not trust man telling you are wrong, but if you if allow, the Holy Spirit will lead you to all truth. Start down a path where it is you and him. Get rid of all your rituals, confessions to men, praying to anyone but God in Jesus name long enough that you here the spirit speak to you. Draw near to him and he will draw near to you. You are missing something so great, and you don't even know it.
I will echo GPtimes2, in that I have never met a Christian who believes that and more importantly, I am a bit taken aback that you somehow read that into any of the replies in this thread. Atheists being saved???
Does communion save the believer? No. We partake in communion “in remembrance” of Christ.
Does baptism save the believer? No. The act of baptism is an outward sign of our faith in Christ.
Do we stop sinning once believe in Christ as our savior? No. We sin daily in the things we do, and in things we leave undone. We lie, we covet, we lust, we commit adultery, we steal, we cause dissection, we are prideful, we fail to trust, we fail to give thanks, etc…. Paul asked three times for a “thorn” to be removed from his side. What sin was he dealing with? We do not know, but it was something that he continually dealt with and repeatedly asked for it to be removed from his life through prayer. The point I am getting to is while we were all sinners, Jesus gave His life to save us as long as we put our faith in Him. God’s saving grace is a gift we cannot earn, no matter how hard we try. We believe, we do our best to repent and live a life reflecting Jesus’ teachings and though we will continue to error and fall short of the glory of God, believers will be saved.
Thank you, that’s all I’ve been saying!! ! Go back and read everything that I have said in this thread. I haven’t brought up any Catholic teachings. I haven’t said anything about confessing your sins, praying to Saints, Eucharist, Sacred Tradition, nothing……
But to say that we are all ASSURED of our salvation just isn’t true in my opinion. We are all ASSURED we CAN obtain salvation - that I’ll agree with.
If I said something in this thread that you disagree with, call it out. But if you are making assumptions about what I am stating because you are aware that I am Catholic, then that is not fair.
But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
This is what the living Christ, Lord of both the living and the dead who sits at the right hand of Righteousness, has said. You can clearly see that He says "ALL" and "EVERY" one, which in my opinion doesn't leave out anyone.
Now, He does NOT say that we shall all have our eternal residence in Heaven, but we shall ALL stand before the judgement seat in Heaven to be assigned our eternal destination by Our Father in Heaven.
God is Pure Spirit, as we have learned in His encounter with Moses when He placed him in the cleft of the rock as He passed by him, and Moses caught a glimpse of Him which transformed his entire figure, therefore, I do not believe that God would have any issues in being contaminated if an atheist or a murderer stood before Him to receive their judgement.

It's an interesting video but lumping all protestants into one group is not realistic. There are some fairly deep differences in doctrine between the many protestant denominations. Thankfully Christ remains the center.
To answer John's question, I believe there are no coincidences.
