    you absolutely can add "things" to attract baitfish. Just make sure its legal as far as FWC stands. I'd opt for no on the cans because you ultimately are leaving them there. Unless you suspend them on jugs but then eveyone knows theres something there.

    Buy cheap dry dogfood. You can get it in the brush a few different ways...put some in a weighted sealed paper bag and drop it in, buy bread at the day old bread store and make doughballs with the dry food, or do like shrimp baiters and mix the dogfood with clay.

    If the brush is shallow enough you can also just dump a scoop or two, and let it sink and scatter in the brush.

    Soybean cake works great to attract and keep shiners. Rolled oats work well to attract them for a short time. Just mix a little water with the oats and make a softball sized wad and pitch it in. Come back and fish in an hour or so.
