    250 Pro XS Smartcraft question

I took the new motor out the other day. I made sure the engine warmed up and I followed the advice you guys gave me. My question is when I started the Motor the Bell and Motor symbols were flashingon the Smartcraft guage. This is the first time I have had the motor in the water. Is this just something that happens during breakin. The motor ran good and I heard no alarms nor did it go in to guardian mode. I ran the motor for a total of about 1 hour and 20 minutes above 4000 rpms. Man I think I am going to love this new motor.

    Thanks

    Tim,

I had same issue with new 225 pro xs, wound up being engine mounted oil tank was not all the way full. had to unscrew black plug on top and idle until it overflowed and then capped off (Be carefull not to overtighten plug) all was well after that. Hope this helps...

That is normal to have those symbols showing during breaking in.. It is something Mercury started last year to show you that you are still in the break-in mode.. The symbols will go away around 2 to 2 1/2 hours of proper run time..

This is correct. You will not receive a "warning horn"... but you will receive the flashing icons during break-in.

If it was oil... you would also see the oil can icon illuminated, and hear a warning buzzer (for six seconds).

My 250 ProXS did the same thing during breakin period. Run it like you have been and then the flashing will disappear.

    Then the fun comes

Once you get to trim that BEAST up a bit, the boat will come ALIVE.

Your right, your gonna LOVE IT

I cant get over how quiet the motor is at idle. Running up the lake at 4500 rpms and I could still talk to my wife without yelling at her. Bad thing about that is with the old motor when I yelled at her she couldnt hear what I was saying to her. Guess I will have to be a little more careful now .

If ya get short on conversation... set the RPM's at 3490.

Re: 250 Pro XS Smartcraft question (basscla)

OK I have never heard reeds slap.. . Dont think I want to hear the reeds slap. From everything I read, it seems this Opti Engine has to be babied alot more than my Old 225X. Got to remember to stay off the 3490 rpm range, have to becareful in cold water conditions as to not stick the #6 piston and have to turn the key on then off and then prime the fuel bulb before starting the engine. Is there any other secrets to owning one of these?

Re: 250 Pro XS Smartcraft question (BulletTJ)

Don't panic... the 3490 RPM thing was simply a "joke". Reed slap (and engine harmonic vibration) is most noticable at approximately this RPM... although it won't hurt a thing. You've got a high performance engine- and it's meant to be DRIVEN!

Use good fuel (with quickleen), appriopriate oil, allow it to warm up to 120 degrees prior to takeoff, and allow the temps to stabilize before shutdown (idle for 45-60 seconds before shutdown).

    Follow the recommended maintenance schedule.

Aside from that... it's meant to be RUN.

That reed slap noise does come in real handy at times
